What is the Gospel
The Gospel is a message of Good News concerning the Power of God for Salvation to everyone who believes the message. Romans 1:16.
The Power of God
Salvation is deliverance from the controlling Power of sin in our lives and from its awful Penalty when life is over.
The purpose of the Gospel is not to bring us into bondage to religious dogma or to burden us with good living principles and practices that we could never keep.
On the contrary this message is a message from God that brings news of salvation from judgement and gives us the desire and the power to live lives that please him. That is why Christians are happy and fulfilled people. God enables them to live in a meaningful and fulfilling way with the assurance of eternal life in Heaven’s Glory when life is over.
The Power of Sin
Sin is a concept that is considered outdated today. It is reckoned to be a relic of a long gone age when men were bound in life with unreasonable obligations to family, society and God. It is argued that in this enlightened age we should not be bothered too much by conscience or the antiquated laws of morality. Is it just coincidence that as society casts off the concept of God and Sin the more it seems to break down and families break up?.
While we sin against one another it is so much more important to know that all Sin is ultimately against God. Sadly we are quicker to identify sin in others while excusing ourselves as we personally Sin against God. Psalm 51:2
God is Holy. 1 Peter 1:16 That means that he is essentially and intrinsically Pure in himself and Righteous in all his behaviour. God is Good in the truest sense of that word and he desires only Good for his creatures. Sin pollutes and destroys. God in his goodness must destroy Sin and must uphold his own laws of justice and punish sinners.
The good news of the Gospel is that before time began God in wisdom and in grace devised a way in which his just claims against Sin and Sinners could be Satisfied and at the same time the Sinner could be delivered from his righteous wrath and be free to enjoy him forever.
This was no small matter. It meant that if the debt of Sin was to be paid to satisfy the just demands of God then God himself would have to pay it. No sinful man could pay that infinite redemption price to satisfy the claims of justice. None could do such a thing for themselves much less for others. If men were to know deliverance from Sin’s penalty then it would be God himself who would pay Sin’s debt
He has done this by sending his own Son into the world to pay the ransom for Sin at the cross at Calvary. The Lord Jesus is none other and none less that the Eternal Son of God who willingly became a man and in his perfect sinlessness laid down his life as a once and for all ransom for sinners upon the cross. 1 John 4:9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.
He Died that we might be forgiven
He died to make us good
That we might go at last to Heaven
Saved by his precious blood
The Lord Jesus had no Sin of his own for which a ransom price had to be paid. He died on behalf of others. The cornerstone of this good news message is that “Christ died for our Sins”. God in his Holiness is fully satisfied with what the Lord Jesus did to provide Salvation for Sinners and he showed his satisfaction by raising him from the dead and receiving him back to his side in Heaven
The Power of Resurrection
The Gospel brings news of a work that has been completed to secure the Salvation of the Sinner. It is not a message that instructs men “TO DO” to obtain Forgiveness but is the message from God that says all has been “Done” to secure the Forgiveness if Sins. The blessings of the Gospel are for Every One Who Believes. God who is Love urges you to accept the message as a true and dependable word from himself. The Gospel points to Christ as the only Saviour of Sinners.
This good news is unique in its authority and power. It does not merely tell of a Saviour who died. A Saviour who is dead is no Saviour at all. It tells of a Saviour who died but was raised from the dead and is alive for evermore. This living Saviour, The Lord Jesus Christ, is alive and is able to save to the uttermost all that come unto God by him.
If you know your need of forgiveness: Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved. Acts 16:31
